Brian Douglas Paasch (pronounced “posh”) is seeking
the Republican nomination to the United States House of Representatives
for Indiana's 4th Congressional District.
Brian
was born September 14, 1960, the eldest of two children. He
grew up in the greater Sacramento, California area attending
public schools in the San Juan Unified School District. After
graduating from high school in 1978, he attended American
River Community College to complete lower division course
work in preparation for transfer to the University of California,
Davis. In 1980, Brian transferred to UC Davis where he earned
a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry in 1983. From
fourth grade and continuing into early college, Brian enjoyed
competitive swimming on AAU teams.
Upon
graduation in 1983, Brian embarked on a career in life sciences
with his ultimate goal being to work in the pharmaceutical
industry. He began work in pharmaceutical development in 1990.
Through his industrial experience, Brian has demonstrated
technical, leadership and teamwork skills. Brian has managed
a scientific lab and staff, participated in or led many team
efforts, lead or co-authored ten scientific papers and abstracts
and been invited as a technical speaker to scientific conferences.
In
1984, Brian married Cara Hight whom he had met at UC Davis.
Brian and Cara remained in Davis as Cara began working toward
her professional degree at the UC Davis School of Veterinary
Medicine. In 1988 Cara was awarded her DVM and the couple
moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. After six years of working
in a small animal, full service veterinary hospital in the
city of San Francisco, Cara interrupted her professional career
for the birth of their first child and began a new career
as a full-time mom.
In
the summer 2000, Brian and Cara moved their family to Avon,
Indiana. Upon their arrival, the Paasch family quickly grew
to appreciate the God and family friendly Hoosier culture
and they quickly embraced Indiana as “home.” Brian and Cara
now have four children and Cara is particularly busy, as they
have chosen to home educate their children.
Brian
accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord at the age of
eight and has been actively involved in the church for most
of his life. While in college, Brian led home Bible studies.
In 1981 he spent three months living in an orphanage in Taiwan
teaching evening classes in conversational English to college
students as part of a missionary outreach program with OC
Ministries (now OC International). As an adult, Brian has
served in assorted formal church leadership roles in missions
and adult Christian education. The Paasch family attends Grace
Fellowship Church in Avon.
Public
service was not a part of Brian’s career plan. However, due
to his ever-increasing concern regarding the direction of
the Federal Government, Brian felt led to run for a seat in
the US House of Representatives. Brian believes that our Founding
Fathers, guided firmly by the Hand of God, set in place an
excellent government system subordinate to personal, individual
liberty. However, today’s Federal Government is, bit by bit,
taking that personal liberty away from the people. If elected,
Brian will consider his first priority on every legislative
matter to uphold his oath of office to “support and defend
the Constitution of the United States against all enemies,
foreign or domestic.”
